MEEKER | Meeker’s Barone Middle School track team is off to a good start this season, with two meets already completed. The team traveled to Rangely on May 1 for their first meet this year. There were quite a few points scored in a large number of events. The seventh grade girls took first in both the 4×100 and 800-meter medley relays, and Addie Knowles won discus. The seventh grade girls team took second place. The eighth grade girls also won their 4×100 relay, and the 4×200 as well. Graycee Cravens won the discus competition at 63 feet, 6 inches, and Zoe Baldozier took first place in four individual events, including the 100-meter dash, 100-meter hurdles, triple jump, and high jump. Cravens also took second place in shot put, and Reese Clatterbaugh was second in triple jump, with Adi Selle third in that event. The eighth grade girls took first place in team scoring. The seventh grade boys, second place as a team, also had some solid results. Kai Sjoerdsma was second in the 400-meter dash, and Aidan Tapia took second in the 1,600-meter run and 100 hurdles. He was also third place in the 800 run, and Sjoerdsma placed third in discus. Tristin Rollins was third in shot put, and Eric Petrocco tied for third in the 100 hurdles. The eighth grade boys also had a great showing, with quite a few top-eight finishes in the field events, and a good bit of scoring in the races as well. Clay Crawford won both the 100 and 200-meter races, as well as anchoring the winning 4×100 relay team. Cade Blunt took first place in shot put and discus. Sam Hightower was second in triple jump, and Wyatt Rollins took third in the 1,600 run. Crawford was third place in long jump and high jump.
Meeker traveled to Baggs, Wyoming, on Friday. Rylee Sullivan took first place in triple jump, and the 4×400 relay, consisting of Sullivan, Naomy Villalpando, Addie Knowles, and Jacey Follman, took first place as well. That same group took second place in the 4×100 relay. Follman was also third in the triple jump, and Sullivan took third in the 200-meter hurdles. The girls team was fourth place as a whole. The seventh grade boys also were fourth in team scoring. Rollins won the 100 hurdles. Sjoerdsma took second in discus. Tapia was third place in 100 hurdles. For the eighth grade boys, Blunt once again won shot put and discus. Crawford won the 200 dash, and was third in the 100. Hightower and Finley Deming joined those two in the 4×100 and 4×200 relays, placing third and second, respectively. The boys were third as a team. The eighth grade girls again won the meet in team scoring, with Baldozier again winning the 100 dash and high jump. She was also third in 100 hurdles. Clatterbaugh won the triple jump at 29 feet, 10.50 inches, and was third in the 400-meter dash. Cravens took third in discus, with Taylor Garcia third in triple jump. The 4×200 relay team of Clatterbaugh, Garcia, Taylor Schacht, and Aimee Shults won the event. The 4×100 and 800 Medley relay teams both took third place.
The middle school squad will be in Craig on Friday, with events starting at 10 a.m.
