Meeker High School track season officially underway despite snow

MEEKER | Nothing says track season in Northwest Colorado like not actually being able to see your track as it is covered in snow.

“Outdoor spring sports in the mountains that start this early are almost impossible,” said head coach Hallie Blunt. “Our kids are at a disadvantage in the early weeks, being forced to practice inside for much of it.”

Monday was the first day the track was actually clear of snow and the kids were able to run on it, but the throwing rings still need time for melting and drying.

Assisting Blunt this year is Clea Steerman, Kirk Hossack, Jordan Brown, Greg Cravens, Terrance Casias and Shane Phelan.

“Dr. Justin Grant is going to help some,” Blunt said. “He will customize workout plans and of course [John] Strate is always there to answer questions I have. We are just meeting in the lobby after school tomorrow. We will lift and do some light running in indoor track. I’m letting girls have a week off if they want after their winter sport. And obviously we won’t have boys b-ball players but we will get started with who we have.”
