MEEKER | The younger Mustangs (third and fourth grades) took to a soggy field at Starbuck Stadium against a tough Rifle team Saturday. Both teams started tentatively with cold hands and fumbles aplenty. After half time the boys warmed up, held onto the ball, and quickly built a comfortable margin on the scoreboard.
Taking advantage of the lead, coaches were able to substitute many players into new positions. All the Mustangs responded well to the quick changes and proved once again the value of hard work and paying attention with a final score of 25-0.
The fifth and sixth grade Mustangs also dominated the Bears on Saturday. Final score was not tracked as the Mustangs commanding lead of 28 points was the last score taken according to league rules. Some fantastic offensive plays on Saturday including an interception by Tyler Sanders and multiple phenomenal catches by Finley Deming. The offensive and defensive lines for the Mustangs have some heavy hitters in Dillon Hobbs, Edwin Villalpando, Hayden Schulz, Judd Harvey, Mason Allen, Noah LeBlanc and Teagan Sheridan. The Mustangs extend an invitation to the community for Saturday’s contest at Starbuck Stadium. While they are not so bold as to guarantee a win, they will assure a display of fine sportsmanship, dedication and fun. Games begin at noon on Oct. 7.
