MEEKER | Fruita Monument High School hosted their Anna Banana Memorial Invitational on Saturday, and Meeker was in attendance. The location and course were different this year, just southwest of Fruita, at the Snooks Bottom Open Space. The varsity boys started the day, and Matthew Beck finished the race in 19:08, dropping 10 seconds from last week, for a new personal record (PR). Josue Martinez also set a new PR this week, as our second across the line, in 20:51. Pake Burke was our third to finish, in 22:07.
Ashdon Siebert and Christopher Strate ran together well, in 23:10 and 23:24. Greg Jones rounded out our varsity squad, finishing the race in 24:10. Greg and Ashdon’s times were both PR’s this week as well. Meeker finished 11th out of 13 team scores.
Girls’ varsity ran the second race of the day, and Briar Meszaros continued to show improvement, with a 41st place finish at 23:20.
Zach Harman was our sole competitor in the junior varsity boys’ race, and dropped several minutes from his previous best this year, finishing in 31:49.
“We were happy to have Christopher and Pake back this week, but we still do not have the team at 100 percent. Times are improving, the freshmen are really stepping up, and I am seeing great effort from everyone,” said head coach Marty Casey.
The Cowboys had a tough weekend, competing at Sweitzer Lake in Delta on Friday and then traveling to Craig for the Moffat County Invitational on Saturday. Results to follow.
