Meeker shines on Senior Night, Weber reaches 100 wins at DCC Duals

MEEKER |  The Meeker Cowboys wrestling team continued its strong midseason run last week, opening with a dominant 57–4 senior-night win over the Moffat County Bulldogs. The team honored graduating seniors Drake Jones, Holton Harvey, and Tristin Rollins, along with team manager Morgan Keetch, who will all graduate in spring 2026.

“It felt like we were much more excited to compete that night,” said head coach Stryker Lane. “Maybe because it was senior night, or maybe because Moffat County duals are always energetic. We did a good job of being ready—the short turnaround from Saturday to Tuesday can be tricky, but it looked like we were ready to go. I am very happy with our team’s mindset. It looks like everyone is excited to be out there and grateful for the opportunity.”

Meeker’s victory was highlighted by pins, forfeits, and depth across the lineup. The Cowboys recorded seven falls, several in the first period, and added four wins by forfeit. Meeker won 10 of the contested bouts, with its only loss coming at 113 pounds.

Cody Richardson set the tone early with a 17-second pin at 120 pounds, followed by Koy Weber’s 52-second fall at 132 pounds. Cooper Maupin (150), Tristin Rollins (157), and Orion Musser (165) also recorded pins, while Holton Harvey earned a 4–1 decision at 144 pounds. Drake Jones (175), Corbin Grant (126), Kael Overton (138), and Jonah Christensen (190) picked up victories by forfeit.

The Cowboys carried that momentum into the DCC Duals, hosted by Discovery Canyon, finishing second overall after a strong two-day showing against a deep field of Front Range and Western Slope programs. Meeker went 4–1 in duals, with its only loss to eventual champion The Classical Academy.

Meeker opened the tournament with dominant wins over Central Grand Junction (54–28) and Discovery Canyon (74–3), then rebounded from its loss with a 54–10 victory over Rampart. The Cowboys edged Lakewood 40–35 in one of the closest duals of the tournament before defeating Central Grand Junction again, 52–12. Meeker closed the event with a 41–33 win over Lakewood and capped the weekend with a decisive 54–5 victory over Central Grand Junction in the final round.

A special highlight came when junior Koy Weber reached a milestone, earning his 100th varsity career win, a moment celebrated by both him, his teammates and his family. Weber reflected on the achievement: “My 100th win felt super good. It was super cool to reach that my junior year. One thing that has helped me stay consistent this year is giving it my all in practice and during my matches and having fun while doing it. I never really approach any match in a dual or tournament different from another. I like to go out and give my best for myself and for my team.”

Weber credited his teammates in the middle weights for pushing him in practice. “Me, Kael, Cooper, and Holton have really intense practices and we really help push each other to the next level. It is super nice having multiple people that can compete well and push me in the practice room. My personal goal heading into regionals is to give it my all and do my part in helping the team do well at regionals and state.”

Lane praised Weber’s consistency and leadership: “He is someone that we can count on. You know he is always going to be there and ready to give his best effort, no matter the circumstances. The younger guys can learn a lot by watching how he prepares himself.”

Lane added perspective on the season and the team’s preparation: “I like duals this time of year—they give us a lot of good opportunities to see where we are, and it also gives the coaches more control in terms of picking the right spots to compete. It is impressive to see consistency at a high level. Pride and gratitude—they have put in a lot of work this season, and it is getting close to time for the payoff. Focus has been a big word for me lately. I just want us to maintain our focus and toughness for the next couple weeks. Coach Watt always said to not waste a lot of good work by being unwilling to do a little more work.”

The Classical Academy claimed the team title at the DCC Duals, followed by Meeker in second. Discovery Canyon finished third, with Central Grand Junction, Lakewood, and Rampart rounding out the standings.

The Cowboys will remain at home this weekend, hosting duals on Feb. 7 starting at 8:30 a.m., before turning their focus to the regional tournament the following week.
