MEEKER | Cowboy softball looks a little different this year. There are only 16 games on the roster, rather than the traditional 23. Head coach Briana Williams said, “The girls have great attitudes, even though times are frustrating, they are making the best of it, it’s a great group.” And it’s a big group, 20 in all, 17 from Meeker, two from Rangely and one from Craig. The incoming freshman class is big, one of the largest to pass through Meeker, so the roster has quite a few girls that are young. Leading the team are two seniors, Sierra Gomez who has played for four years and Shyann Dilley (left) who is new to the team.
This year’s coaching lineup consists of Williams, Samantha Wilson back as an assistant, and Eric Brown, Tom Knowles and Kendall Burgman.
Practice began on Aug. 10, and due to the shortened season, the last games will be in October.
“I am happy that CHSAA is allowing us to play,” commented Williams. “It’ll be good for the girls to get some time on the field and be together again.”
The season and games officially begin this Friday in Rifle. Varsity plays at 3 p.m. and JV at 5 p.m.
