MEEKER I It’s official, the Meeker Cowboy volleyball team sealed the Western Slope League Conference this past weekend, finishing out their undefeated league season beating Vail Mountain and Caprock.
“We had a great week of practice and closed out the Western Slope league matches against Vail Mountain and Caprock Academy,” commented head coach Greg Cravens.
The Cowboys put together two good matches winning both 3-0.
“Vail Mountain had some very good middles and a good setter but the girls were up to the challenge with some great defense,” said Cravens.
The Cowboys beat Vail Mountain 25-13, 25-10, and 25-15
“Caprock is a program that is getting better,” commented Cravens. “They are young and served well. We had a slow start but the girls finished the match strong.”
Another solid win by the Cowboys in three sets, the scores were 25-13, 25-11, and 25-9.
One week left in the regular season, and with league play completed, Meeker is going to Buena Vista to play some 3A and 4A schools in the Heart of the Rockies Volleyball Invitational.
“We hope to be up to the challenge,” said Cravens.
In this round robin Meeker is joined by seven teams, and in pool A is Buena Vista, Centauri, Meeker, and Banning Lewis and in pool B is Niwot, Middle Park, Bennett, and GrandValley. These two pools of four teams each will be paired after pool play to determine places one through eight. Meeker will play Middle Park at 10, Buena Vista at 11, and to wrap-up their pool play, Centauri at 2. These times are approximate, if a game finishes early the next game will begin.
“This is what we had hoped for, we get to play Centauri and if we take care of business, we get a shot at Niwot,” commented Cravens. “Two teams that should help move us up in the rankings.
