Meeker volleyball sweeps Rangely, Cedaredge; continues winning streak with West Grand victory

MEEKER |  The Meeker High School volleyball team had a busy week, starting by hosting the Rangely Panthers on Tuesday, Sept. 30. The Cowboys swept the Panthers on Rangely’s home court, winning 25-19, 25-12, 25-12. This time, Meeker defended its home court, prevailing in straight sets, winning 25-19, 25-15, 25-21.

Senior Rylee Sullivan led the team offensively with 11 kills, six digs, and 10 serve receptions. Freshman Raegan Clatterbaugh recorded eight kills, five digs, and seven serve receptions. Senior Lili Newman added five kills, two blocks, and six service aces, while Shailee Rundberg contributed six kills on .545 hitting.

Sullivan reflected on her performance: “Hitting high hands on their block was working well for me, also seeing the court and finding holes.”

Defensively, Braydin Raley anchored the back row with 13 digs and 30 serve receptions, while Hailey Schwartz added seven digs and 12 assists. 

On Friday at Cedaredge, Meeker swept the Bruins 25-21, 25-15, 25-21. Freshman Raegan Clatterbaugh led with nine kills, five digs, seven serve receptions, and three total blocks. Lili Newman and Lissbeth Hernandez each added four kills on .300 hitting. Sullivan contributed three kills, nine digs, and was perfect in serve receive (7-for-7). Braydin Raley anchored the defense with 30 serve receptions and seven digs. Rundberg hit .250, and Schwartz added seven assists and six digs.

The Cowboys carried their momentum into West Grand the following day. Clatterbaugh again led the offense with nine kills, followed by Sawyer May with seven, Ruth LeBlanc with five, and Rundberg with four. Rundberg served three aces, with Clatterbaugh and Sanchez adding two each. Blocking was balanced with May, Clatterbaugh, and LeBlanc each recording two blocks. Raley led digs with 27, followed by Rundberg with 20 and Follman with seven. Follman had 13 assists, supported by Schwartz and Newman with nine and five.

Braydin Raley and Rundberg anchored serve reception with 41 and 15 successful passes. The Cowboys won 3-1, with final scores of 25-22, 25-20, 19-25, 25-19, improving their record to 9-3 overall, 5-1 in league play, and second place in the 2A/1A Western Slope League.

Cravens praised his team’s resilience across the two road games. “How we battled,” he said. “The girls took care of business Friday at Cedaredge and with a new lineup on Saturday when we went to West Grand.” 

With a six-match winning streak and strong senior leadership, Cravens emphasized focus and team chemistry. “We need to stay focused on the goals we set at the beginning of the year and continue working on our skills and getting better every time we step on the court.”

Looking ahead, the Cowboys will travel to North Park on Friday, Oct. 10, at 4 p.m. and Plateau Valley on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m.
