MEEKER I Last weekend the Cowboys played Vail Christian and Hayden in what head coach Greg Cravens called, “two good league matches for the week.”
Meeker captured wins against Vail Christian and Hayden, beating each 3-0.
“This week we worked on our serve and serve receive game during practice,” said Cravens. It was not reflected in the Friday game, but Saturday the team served 91% which was the best of the season.
Friday in the 3-0 win over Vail Christian the team won 25-23, 25-10 and 25-19.
“We had a slow start against Vail Christian but were able to pick up our game to win in three sets,” commented Cravens.
The Cowboys only served 82% but their hitting efficiency was .223 which was the best they have had in the last four matches.
Returning back to Meeker to play in front of a home crowd, the Cowboys took on Hayden, winning in three, 25-15, 25-11, 25-10
“We had a few girls that weren’t feeling well Saturday but gave us all they had,” said Cravens. Meeker served 91% on Saturday which is the second-best for the season and they also had a second-best hitting efficiency with .274.
“The girls played well all weekend,” said Cravens.
Next week will be a great test for the Cowboys. West Grand is 9-2 on the season and 3-0 in the league.
“They have really put together a good season so far,” said Cravens.
Plateau Valley is 10-3 on the season and 4-2 in the league.
“Both teams are athletic, have new coaches this year, and good energy on the court; we will have to play well both days to come away with wins,” wrapped up Cravens.
Friday games begin at 4 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m.
