Meeker welcomes new market

MEEKER | Meeker has welcomed a new business called Los Nogales, located where the old Meeker Bakery used to be on 6th Street. Owner Virginia Arroyos sat down to talk about her excitement regarding the opening of her new store.

When asked what brought her to Meeker, Arroyos explained, “The people of Meeker brought me here because I have a lot of customers who travel from Meeker to Rifle, and I thought it’d be convenient for them to have something close by.”

She owns another store in Rifle, Colorado, at 160 East 26th Third St. She has owned that location for 10 years.

Regarding how her career started, Arroyos stated, “I started from nothing. When I first started out, I didn’t have any help of any kind. I kind of started from scratch.”

“Everyone looked at it like I was crazy because I had no money to start in the beginning, but I pulled it off with grit,” continued Arroyos.

She is excited about  many aspects of her new business. “I’m most excited about how people are reacting to the business. Everybody here is really lovely,” she shared.

“They support it. Some people just come in to say hi and that they’re happy I’m here,” continued Arroyos.

Opening a new business comes with challenges. “There are a lot of challenges, but I overcome them by everything that I’ve accomplished so far, and that’s what keeps me going.”

She shared how she came up with the name for her business. “I came up with the name from a store in Mexico that I used to go to,” she stated. “It was a lot like this one: everything was well organized, well kept, very clean and friendly. I wanted that same environment.”

Los Nogales sells a variety of items, including different types of meats, cheeses, drinks, candies and groceries typically found in Mexico.

She mentioned that she listens to her customers. “I have an ear out for what people want, so everything they ask for, I try to meet their requests.” The store is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday opening at 8 a.m.

Offering advice to the youth in the community, Arroyos stated, “You can do anything. What you think is out of your reach is not, and any obstacle you face, you can overcome.”
