MEEKER | The third-ranked Meeker High School boys wrestling team in Class 2A defended its home mats this past weekend, capturing first place at its home dual tournament with a dominant performance across the lineup.
Meeker opened pool A with a commanding 66–6 victory over Soroco, winning 11 of 14 contested bouts and recording six pinfall victories. Eli Rundberg (120) set the tone with a fall in just 27 seconds, while Koy Weber (132), Cooper Maupin (150), Jaxen Mills (157) and Jonah Christensen (190) also earned pins. The Cowboys added forfeit wins from Dylan Rundberg (106), Corbin Grant (126), Kael Overton (138), Holton Harvey (144), Orion Musser (165) and Drake Jones (175) to build the lopsided team score.
In the second round, Meeker followed with a 47–27 win over Basalt, claiming victories in eight of the 13 contested weights. Overton jump-started the Cowboys with a fall in 35 seconds at 138 pounds, while Maupin (150), Musser (165) and Jones (175) also secured pinfall victories. Harvey added a technical fall at 144, and Eli Rundberg (120), Weber (132) and Dylan Rundberg (106) each collected forfeit wins.
After a bye in the third round, Meeker returned to the mat with a dominant 64–0 sweep of Steamboat Springs, earning points in 11 of 14 weights. Weber (132) and Eli Rundberg (120) recorded pinfall victories, while Mills added a major decision at 157. The Cowboys also received forfeit wins from Grant (126), Overton (138), Harvey (144), Maupin (150), Musser (165), Jones (175), Christensen (190) and Dylan Rundberg (106).
During the tournament, senior Holton Harvey reached another milestone, securing the 101st varsity win of his high school career. Harvey said the moment meant more than just the number.
“I am just super happy I am surrounded by a great community, and I’m happy I got to win my 100th in front of the people who support me,” Harvey said. “My mindset has changed a lot. I just love the sport more now and do it for the love of wrestling, not because of the outcome.”
Meeker closed pool play with a 48–21 victory over Delta, winning 10 of 14 matches. Tristin Rollins (165) and Corbin Grant (126) earned pinfall victories, while Weber (132) and Jones (175) picked up decision wins. Overton (138), Harvey (144), Maupin (150), Christensen (190) and Dylan Rundberg (106) each added forfeit victories.
Meeker earned a 44–27 win over North Fork who wrestled in pool B, winning eight of the 14 contested matches. Pinfall victories from Overton (138), Harvey (144) and Jones (175) paced the Cowboys, while Eli Rundberg added a technical fall at 120. Christensen contributed a decision win at 190, and Maupin (150), Dylan Rundberg (106) and Weber (132) each picked up forfeit victories.
The Cowboys now turn their attention to the Class 2A Region 1 Tournament, scheduled for Feb. 13–14 in Cedaredge. The tournament begins Friday at 4 p.m. and resumes Saturday at 9 a.m., with state-qualifying spots on the line for the Colorado State Championships at Ball Arena in Denver.
