MEEKER | Meeker hosted the Aspen, Soroco, and Battle Mountain cross country teams at its home invitational on Saturday, Aug. 19.
The Cowboys had two races, with the girls starting the day. Twenty-four girls completed the course, although Meeker did not have any entries in that race this week. In the boys’ race, junior Wyatt Rollins finished in ninth place at 22:03. Meeker’s second finisher was sophomore Aidan Tapia in 11th place at 22:27, about 1.5 minutes faster than last year. Dublin Price, a new addition to the team this year, ran the course in 26:24. The sophomore finished 17th overall. Cameron Hanberg, also a sophomore, was Meeker’s fourth finisher, in 19th place at 26:48, more than four minutes faster than his time last year.
On Saturday, Aug. 26, the Cowboys traveled to Crown Mountain Park in El Jebel, Colorado, to compete in the Basalt Longhorn Invitational. The meet hosted 32 middle and high school teams this year. Haylee Steele represented Meeker in the girl’s high school race, finishing in 30:05 for 122nd place.
Meeker had five competitors in the boys race this week. Wyatt Rollins was the Cowboys’ first finisher, and 57th overall, at 20:37. The next Meeker runner was Aidan Tapia at 21:22 and 69th place. Dublin Price and Cameron Hanberg were the next Cowboy teammates to the line, 126th at 24:18 and 130th at 25:02 respectively. Meeker’s fifth finisher, Remy Broussard, ran the course in 34 minutes flat, for 163rd place.
“Our returning runners are posting similar or better times than last year; Cameron and Remy were three to four minutes faster — a new personal best for Remy. Dublin continues to improve as well. A great effort in a crowded field,” said Cowboys head coach Marty Casey.
