Meeker’s JV edged out by Sailors

MEEKER I The Black and Gold JV were defeated by the margin of a field goal, losing to Steamboat Springs 28-31. The Cowboys compiled 438 yards, running for 276 and passing for 162 plus 21 first downs. This is usually enough for a victory but the Steamboat quarterback threw his team up and down the field while hitting key passes on third and long situations a number of times.
The offensive line for Meeker did an outstanding job and led the Cowboys late in the game on a 98 yard, 10 play drive. The boys finished the night stopping Steamboat and getting a few shots at the end zone before time ran out. The offensive line consisted of Nakoma Bailey, who did an outstanding job all night long, Adrian Shroyer, Ty Pollock, Ty Dunham, Kash Atwood, Ruben Roybal and blocking back Costin Pallach who led blocks on most plays.
Justin Giao, Tony Collins, Tristin Pelloni, Jake Henderson and Matt Fantz led the receivers with a total of 11 catches for 162 yards. Giao hauled in a long fourth down pass for a touchdown and led the JV Cowboys in receiving for the night. Tristin Pelloni had a nice 37 yard reception in the third quarter that led to a touchdown.
The defense was led by Dillon Frantz who had more than 14 tackles from his linebacker position. Dillon also rushed for 32 yards on only four carries. The QB position rushed for 191 yards divided by two men manning this position. They also hit 11 of 21 passes for 162 yards. All in all the QB position produced 353 yards in the game. We always attempt to use young QBs at the JV level to build for the future.
Other players whose defensive skills were shining were Jake Henderson, Matt Fantz, Connor Pfister, Ruben Roybal, Robby Jensen and Tony Collins.
