MEEKER I April 14-16, 2022, was an inspiring weekend of competition, recognition and of course continuing leadership journeys for the Meeker High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) members who attended the 2022 Colorado FCCLA State Conference. Thursday featured opening ceremonies, a delicious dinner at the Cheesecake Factory, and the beginning of a busy three days. During Opening Ceremony, Meeker High School FCCLA was recognized for their Community Service Project “Empty Bowls.” On Friday competition began and our students did not disappoint. All the hard work our chapter put into competitive events finally paid off! “We have a very young group of students,” said instructor Brenda Hummel, “Six out of nine are freshmen, and only senior Hadley Franklin has competed at FCCLA in the past. This was exciting and nerve racking. Their results speak of their hard work and knowledge that our schools provide them. Watching students succeed makes the hard days worth it!”
MHS was proud to have students compete seven different events, all placing with medals. Qualifying for Nationals: Hadley Franklin earned a first place gold in job interview; Gracie Blagg earned a second place gold medal in entrepreneurship; Sam Hightower and Finley Deming earned a second place gold in professional presentation. Looking ahead to the next FCCLA opportunity, winners are able attend the National Leadership Conference in San Diego on June 29 – July 3.
The following students competed and placed accordingly: Rebecca Hood placed third silver in nutrition and wellness; Gabe Richardson earned a silver medal in teach and train; Graycee Cravens earned a silver medal in career investigation; Aimee Shults and Kayla Scott earned a bronze medal in sports nutrition. These students have incredible projects and have developed a good understanding for future competition.
