MHS girls golf wrap regular season, prep for first regional tournament

MEEKER |  The Meeker High School girls golf team wrapped up its regular season last week at the Tiara Rado Golf Course in Grand Junction, hosted by Central High School. Four golfers competed for Meeker, and the team finished 13th out of 16 schools with a combined score of 367 (+154) over 18 holes.

“They did awesome. I’m so proud of all the girls and their accomplishments,” said head coach Amanda Back.

Sophomore Kailynn Watson led the Cowgirls with a round of 116 (+45), shooting a 62 on the front nine and 54 on the back.

“I feel pretty good about my round, considering it was my first singles tournament,” Watson said. “I’m a little nervous for regionals, but I’m more excited than anything.”

Senior Joelle Soler posted a 120, shooting 60 on both the front and back. Senior Mia Pinzon finished with a 133, carding a 67 on the front and 66 on the back.

“I learned resilience and confidence while shooting,” said Pinzon. “For me, it’s not just about trying to go to state — it’s about the amazing team I have and bonding with them on the road.”

Sophomore Sawyer May shot a 131, scoring 64 on the front nine and 67 on the back.

Looking ahead to the team’s first regional tournament appearance, Back said practice is focused on short game.

“Putting and chipping — and just enjoying the experience,” she said.

Good luck to the team this week as they look to continue their season at their first ever regional tournament and as always go Cowboys!
