MEEKER | The Meeker Cowboy Lady Golf team opened up their spring season at Chipeta on Monday. Head coach Amanda Back took five girls; Averee Woodward, Aiyana McCook, Adi Knowles and Joelle Soler played in a scramble. Woodward and McCook, the veterans on the scramble team, led the girls to shooting an 86. For Knowles and Soler this was their first high school golf tournament.
“The girls did really great,” said Back, “we have been practicing inside and to be on grass was so nice and the girls had a lot of fun.”
The fifth member was Vivian Brown who played individual stroke play and shot a 109.
“Brown shot a 109 last year on this course, so it was awesome that after the winter we have had and not being on course she was able to shoot the same again this year,” commented Back. The girls now have a bit of a break and will not play again until the Tuesday after Spring Break, when, so long as the course gets some significant snow melt, they will be playing at Gypsum Creek Eagle.
