MEEKER I On last Fridays very chilly morning the Meeker Cowboys track team participated in the Rifle invitational. Over 30 teams were present from across the western slope of Colorado. It was spring break for the Cowboys so not every Cowboy was able to attend but head coach Hallie Blunt took 34 kids to the Rifle event.
Coach Blunt was able to have more than three kids per event, so a lot of the kids were able to try out events they have never done.
“I am really excited about all of the kids out and the results from our first meet, began coach Blunt. ”I think we have a lot to discuss and work on as a coaching staff but we definitely have so much potential”. Here are the results for the kids placing in the top three at this event that featured hundreds of kids.
• Kelton Turner 100 meter dash, third place 11.47 seconds
• Turner, third place Pole vault 10 feet 6 inched
• Meeker girls relay A, second in 4×200 meter relay
• Zach Eskelson, shot, second place, 42 feet 6 inches
• Hailey Knowles, second place, discus 100 feet 5 inches
“This season is going to be fun because our kids are willing to work hard not just in individual events but for the team, and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season,” Blunt wrapped up.
This week the Cowboy pole vaulters travel to Denver for a technique clinic while the rest of the team is on spring break. They return to action next week for Meeker’s home track meet.
