MEEKER | Cowboy volleyball hits the court strong with 40 young ladies this year and the addition of a new assistant coach. Becca Steerman joins the Cowboy staff and will be supporting the C team players. The tremendous turnout for the program this year means the team will be splitting up the C Team to create more opportunities for the girls to play. Steerman will be working with her mom, Coach Clea Steerman, to provide an environment for those girls to make the program even stronger.
Coach Kaylene Turner is in her sixth season, leading the JV team.
“I’m very fortunate to have the people around me that I do,” said head coach Greg Cravens. “Those ladies do all the work so I can just sit and look pretty on the bench.”
On varsity, there are seven returning varsity players and five returning starters. Cravens has moved a few girls around from last year to improve success. Lilly Newman has really stepped up this summe,r according to Cravens.
“I have really been impressed with how well she has developed this summer. She is taking advantage of her opportunity for sure.”
Taylor Garcia is returning after leading the state in digs last year.
“This summer I found out she just calms our team when she’s on the court,” said Cravens.
Reese Clatterbaugh, Rylee Sullivan and Adi Selle will work hard for the Cowboys scoring points with Graycee Cravens and Jacey setting.
“I’m excited for the upcoming season,” Cravens added. “The girls have worked very hard this summer. We had at least 25 to 30 girls at every open gym this summer. They have put in the work, now it’s time to show it off.”
