MEEKER | It was a blustery Saturday at the Moffat County Invitational cross country meet. The wind held off for the majority of the races and only the boys’ varsity had to deal with it. Three teams had enough runners for team scoring in the boys’ race, and Meeker placed third. The lady Cowboys did not field enough girls for a team score this week.
Shane Kobald was once again across the finish line first for the Cowboys, finishing in the 16 spot with a time of 21 minutes 9.81 seconds. Owen Hanneman was right behind him at 19 and then Gabe Richardson came in at 22 rounding out the top three Cowboys.
In the girls’ varsity race Brighton Bair had a new PR this week, with a time of 23:16.19 and she finished 19th. Bair, Gwyn Hooks coming in at 32, and Rylee Butler at 34 were the top three Meeker ladies.
“Most of the team who ran here last year had better times this year,” said head coach Marty Casey, adding, “We are seeing improvements, and will be working hard on being prepared for Regionals.”
The Cowboys will be attending the Chris Severy Invitational in Aspen on Saturday, with high school races starting at 9:30 a.m.
