MEEKER I Barone Middle School’s seventh-grade A team won Saturday 30-18, outscoring the visiting team in every quarter.
“We were very successful with our full-court press,” said coach Ben Anderson. “The other team got wore out quickly.”
Leading the way was Jake Phelan with 14 points and six steals. Matt Frantz, Raul Lopez, Tristin Pelloni and Zane Pfau also scored.
The win improved the A team’s record to 4-2, with both losses coming against Craig. The league tournament is Dec. in Craig.
“We are planning on beating them in the tournament,” Anderson said.
In the seventh-grade B-team game, Meeker lost 26-20.
“The B team discovered what happens when the other team hustles down the court and we don’t,” Anderson said. “They did a lot of good things, but have to remember to never slow down.”
Luis Samarripa and Anthony Wyatt led with six points apiece.

RANGELY I The Panther seventh-grade B team won a close one Saturday against Craig, 16-15.
In other action, the Rangely eighth-grade A and B teams lost, 44-20 and 30-25, respectively, while the seventh-grade A team also fell 40-10.
“The kids continue to hustle and play hard, but have found it hard to get a win,” said eighth-grade coach Matt Scoggins. “I am very proud of their effort and their never-quit attitude. These kids will be a force to reckon with down the road.”
