Both Meeker Mustang teams played Basalt at home Saturday.
The younger team won big, 42-7.
Coach Reno Roybal said he is “impressed with all the kids, they have come a long way.”
The team is new to the sport, even more so given the number of third graders and so many fourth graders that didn’t play last year.
“It is amazing how coachable they are and how much they have improved on the season so far,” said Roybal.
The fifth and sixth grade Mustangs faced a tough team, losing 12-14, it was a battle the entire time with neither team wanting to give up any yards to the opposing offense.
Next week both teams will be at Coal Ridge on Saturday.
