Community News Roundup ~ April 30, 2026

Happy Herald Day!

Whoever’s been doing rain dances deserves a nod—and maybe a medal. The moisture this week has been a welcome sight, even if Monday night’s drive home was… character-building. What is it about that 10-mile stretch of Highway 13 south of Meeker that seems to attract the worst possible conditions?

Still, keep the rain coming (minus the lightning, if we’re making requests).

A quick reminder to get your ballots in for the May 5 hospital board election if you haven’t already. I dropped mine in the courthouse box last week and then immediately convinced myself I’d put it somewhere I shouldn’t have. A mildly panicked call to the clerk and recorder’s office later, I learned something useful: if the slot on the mail ballot drop box is open, you’re good. If it’s not, it’s closed.

Consider that your public service announcement for the week.
