If you’re new here, welcome! This is our weekly newsletter, where I wax poetic about all things Rio Blanco County … except there’s not really much waxing, and there’s very little poetry. There IS a lot of fresh community news, though! And maybe some puns, although to be honest, I’m mostly out of anything resembling creativity. I blame January.
More espresso, less depresso? Hey look, there’s some accidental foreshadowing for you. Let’s get to the top stories from this week’s edition.

– Sunday will be a busy day in RBC. Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the Meeker Lions Club are hosting ice fishing and free lunch at Lake Avery from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by the Historical Society’s quarterly gathering/annual business meeting. Details in the Community Calendar.
– From the Meeker Herald, 125 years ago: “Nothing succeeds like the success of some people’s failures.” Yeah … I feel that. Read this week’s Days Gone By here.
– Need a laugh/snort/cackle? (Of course you do. It’s January.) Read this hilarious column about a special “aerobic gift” shared by Ed Peck “for all of us who have put on pounds during the holiday and bought gym memberships on impulse.”
And finally, if you like listening to your community news, we WILL have newscasts for Jan. 11 and Jan. 18, but I have to edit out all the coughing from the bug I caught a few weeks ago first … because ew. They’ll go up sometime this weekend.
If you’d like to join me on the newscast to talk about a story, event, or your favorite pair of socks, let me know! I’ve been told I’m fun … at least twice in my life.
We are also accepting sponsor applications again! If you want to reach our engaged and awesome audience, slide into our dms ... or since I’m *pretty sure* I’m using that phrase wrong … just, you know, send us an email.
Have an AMAZING weekend and I’ll see you back here next week! Thanks for reading!
