Sept. 7, 1957 ~ March 7, 2024
Former Craig resident, Kathy Jo (Clapper) Floyd passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at her home in Grand Junction. She was 66. A celebration of Kathy’s life was held at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 17, 2024, at the Grant Mortuary Chapel in Craig. A reception followed at the Moffat County Pavillion.
Kathy Jo Clapper was born one of seven children to Irvin Ralph “Speck” and Katherine “Josephine” (Davis) Clapper on Sept. 7, 1957, in Meeker, Colorado. Kathy spent her childhood and attended school in Meeker, graduating with the Meeker High School class of 1976.
Following high school, Kathy married Tom Brumback in Meeker. The couple moved to Craig in the summer of 1978. The couple welcomed three beautiful daughters: Kaley Jo, Haley Don and Stephanie Lou. Kathy and Tom’s marriage would end in divorce, however, they remained close friends for their children.
Later on in life, Kathy married Darin Floyd. Although their marriage also ended in divorce, they remained friends until Kathy’s passing.
Kathy moved to Grand Junction in 2014 where she would eventually start her own cleaning business. She also became a property manager and made many friends and acquaintances along the way.
When she wasn’t working, Kathy loved to go on walks and appreciated the nature around her. Her passion in life was working with children whether she was helping them with arts and crafts, or teaching them about Jesus as a Sunday school teacher.
Kathy had a strong faith in her Lord and Savior. If you ever visited her home, you knew that she had scriptures decorated everywhere. When her family and friends were struggling with life’s trials, Kathy would encourage them with God’s word written on index cards which her friends cherish to this day.
Above all, Kathy was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved and cherished the time they shared together.
Kathy is survived by her three daughters: Kaley Jo O’Mailia, Haley Don Brumback and Stephanie Lou Mathis; and one sister, Vera Louise Lyons. Kathy is further survived by six grandchildren: Brendon Venegas, Kortlyn, Austin, Tucker and Ethan O’Mailia and Ayden McEntee; one great-granddaughter, Tamsin O’Mailia; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of special friends.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and two brothers.
Our condolences to the family.
