Lifelong Meeker, Colorado, resident Kenneth L. Maybury passed away Oct. 25, 2020, at the age of 69. Kenneth was born in Meeker on March 3, 1951, to father Arlo Maybury and mother Muriel Thompson Devereaux. He was one of five children. His mother married Charles Devereaux when Ken was a young boy. He grew up working with horses, helping Charles run heavy equipment, and hunting.
Despite his mother’s protest, he enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17. He served from 1970-1975. Upon return from the service he met the love of his life, Barbara. However, life took them in different directions. He moved to California for a short time. Many years later he was reunited with Barbara and they were married in February of 1988. With this marriage came four children.
Kenneth worked for the Colorado Department of Transportation for many years. He was still wearing those orange shirts years after he retired.
Kenneth is survived by his children Lori (Clint) Makinen, Dustin (Becca) Whaley, Amber (Stan) Garcia, Sara (David) Ramirez, his brother and best friend Loren Maybury, his sister Lois Tibbs, many nieces and nephews and nine grandchildren that called him Poppy. He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara, mother Muriel, fathers Charles and Arlo, and brothers Thomas and Allen.
