Phyllis F. Fothergill was born in Elkhart, Kan., on Aug. 22, 1923, to John E. Fothergill and Addie Juanita Fothergill. She passed away Monday Nov. 2, 2015, in Meeker, Colo.
She is preceded in death by: her parents, John and Addie Fothergill, and a sister, Mary Lou Hutton.
She is survived by: her husband of 72 years, Glen Wigington. They had just celebrated their 72nd anniversary on Oct. 30, 2015. She is also survived by: son James Scott Wiginton (Janice) of Westminster, Colo.; daughter Susan L Bunch (Billy) of Rocklin, Calif., and daughter Jona Kay Wigington of Craig, Colo. She leaves six grandchildren, Shawn, Staci, Christine, Jamie, Justin and Darci and 14 great-grandchildren.
Phyllis was graduated from Rifle High School in 1941 and attended Parks Business College in Denver, Colo.
Glen and Phyllis Wigington moved to Meeker in 1953 with children Scott, Susie, and Jona. He was the Standard Oil jobber in the Meeker area. Phyllis worked various jobs as a medical secretary, bookkeeper for Wigington Oil Co., secretary for the U.S. Soil Conservation District and was also a part-time reporter for the Daily Sentinel newspaper.
She enjoyed playing bridge, playing the piano, listening to various kinds of music and traveling abroad. Some of her fondest memories were trips to Ireland and Poland with friends and her sister.
She was active in ESA Sorority and The Order of Eastern Star, and she was politically active in the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colo. She was ahead of time as a champion for the advancement of women’s rights and politics in general. She will be missed.
