Panthers debut pole vault 

Rangely hosted its home meet last weekend with the debut of the pole vault competition.

RANGELY | The Rangely Track and Field team hosted the Rangely Panther Invite where they were able to debut the pole vault. With good weather, being home and getting to show off in front of the home crowd the Panthers had many new PRs and school records. 

All the events were exciting but it has been a long time since there was a pole vault in Rangely, which made that event a little more exciting. Both Miah Wren and Jordan Irwin won the pole vault for girls and boys. Miah cleared 9-1, a new school record while Jordan cleared 12-0 for a new PR. Kastyn Dembowski took second with 8-4, Tylee Fielder and Rachel Elder tied for fifth with 6-10. Kacey Allred took third and cleared 9-10, Clay Allred fourth with 7-10, Izaiah Moody cleared 7-4 and Gage Nielsen cleared 5-10.  

The Panthers did well in the other vertical jump event, the high jump. Kastyn Dembowski took first with a 4-9.5 while Annika Cantrell took second with 4-9.5. On the boys’ side the three jumpers took third, fourth and fifth: Landon Bollinger, 5-5.5, Kacey Allred 5-3.5 and Davon Lucero 5-1.5.  

In the horizontal jumps: triple jump and long jump the Panthers saw many new personal records. The three girls in triple jump were able to leap over 30 feet. Addison Scott had 32-04.50, which put her in first place; Kaelynn Geet 31.0-.50 for fourth place and Emma Smith 30-03 for seventh place. Irwin was the only triple jumper for the boys, he leaped to 39-02.25 for second place. In long jump the three girls did well. Scott for the win with a 15-foot jump, Smith and Geer both jumped 13-02.50. Landon Bollinger took third place with a jump of 18-10, Logon Peterson 17-10.75, Robert Murray 17-5 and Lucero 16-9.75.

In the throws for the girls Miley Francis threw 19-01 in shot and 72-07 in discus, respectfully. Amber Castillo threw 14-03 in shot and 48-06 in discus. On the boys’ side Chase Cochrane was able to get third in the discus with a throw of 112-02 and seventh in shot with 33-10. Justin Allred threw 81-09 in discus, Jaren Blankenship threw 77-0 also in discus. Logan Benson threw 51-01 in discus and 21-02 in shot.  

On the track the girls were able to take first in the sprint medley relay and the 4×800.  The sprint medley team was made up of Dembowski, Scott, Wren and Ashlynn Ducey with a winning time of 1:57.44. The 4×800 team was made up of Taya Wren, Courtney Casto, Elder and Macy Morgan they were able to run a 13:12.41. The boys also had a 4×800 which took second with a 9:52.91 with Clay Allred, Kellen LaFevre, Dylan Moran and Justin Allred.  

For the sprints Smith ran the 100 in 15.51 while Peterson ran a 12.58, Murray a 12.85 and Blankenship a 16.73. In the 200m dash Ducey took second with a 27.78 and Fielder a 29.69 respectively. On the boys’ side there were four boys on each other’s heels: Lucero 26.45, Kacey Allred 26.99, Cochrane 27.48 and Moody 27.78. 

Dylan Moran was the lone boy runner in the 400 dash with a time of 1:05.73 while Elder and Castillo had a 1:12.67 and 1:14.81 respectively. In the 800 run Aren Robertson ran a 2:41.36, Nielsen 3:07.35 and Matthew Morgan 3:10.90.

The Panthers took first in the girls’ and boys’ 1,600-meter run. Taya Wren ran a 5:42 while James Talbot ran a 4:31. Also in the mile for the girls was Casto with a time of 6:44 and Macy Morgan 10:01.  In the boys’ race Lefevre had 5:57, Robertson 6:00, Nielsen 6:27 and Matthew Morgan 7:05. Talbot was also able to take a first in the 3,200-meter with a time of 10:12.63.  

The Panthers put together additional relays, the girls and boys had a 4×100, 4×200 and a 4×400. The 4×200 for the girls was Smith, Geer, Elder and Fielder who ran a 2:00.87. On the boys’ side it was Murray, Moody, Lucero and Peterson with a time of 1:43.59. For the 4×100 the girls were able to break the school record with a time of 52.87 with Dembowski, Scott, Miah Wren and Ducey. The boys ran a 49.19 with Murray, Moody, Bollinger, Irwin. Both 4×400 took first place, the girls were Miah Wren, Tylee Fielder, Taya Wren, Ducey with a time of 4:21.47.  The boys’ team was made up of Irwin, Clay Allred, Kacey Allred and James Talbot with a time of 3:57.93.  

“It was a great track meet. All the athletes performed well and it is nice being home.  Pole vault was exciting seeing Irwin and Wren taking first place. I want to think of all the donors who made the pole vault a reality, we couldn’t have done it without them,” said head coach Beth  Scoggins.

The Panthers will be heading to Olathe on Thursday, April 25 and the Clint Wells meet in Craig on Friday, April 26.
