PMC Home health helps families choose home care

MEEKER I When extra help is needed to allow loved ones to remain at home due to frailty, a fall or a chronic illness, family caregivers have options. Whether additional care is needed for a few hours each week or around the clock every day, in-home care is tailored to fit individual needs. Pioneers Medical Center Home Health supports the idea of “home care your way” and is proud to celebrate November as Home Care and Hospice Month in conjunction with the National Association for Home Care and Hospice (NAHC) and the Private Duty Homecare Association of America (PDHCA).
In fact, private duty agencies and home care providers across the country are educating about the benefits of personalized in-home care options this month, and are spreading PDHCA’s “Help Choose Home” webinar resources to help those in need have “home care their way.”
“Our goal is simple. We want everyone to know that ‘home care your way’ is a real choice for Eastern Rio Blanco County families. We’re committed to educating area residents about home care options,” said Betty Lou Moyer, RN, BSN, PMC Manager of Home Health.
Research conducted by AARP reports that nearly 90 percent of seniors wish to remain in their own homes as they age, which is also known as “aging in place.” Living independently, under one’s own rules, is a key reason for staying at home. And even as day-to-day assistance or ongoing health care is needed, 82 percent would prefer to receive care at home.
However, choosing a home care provider raises many questions. To make the process of selecting a home care agency easier, Pioneers Medical Center Home Health has a checklist available for download at www.pioneershospital.org, to help families make more informed choices about finding an in-home care provider. The checklist ensures that family caregivers ask the right questions and gather the proper information to locate the appropriate agency to provide needed care.
“Because of the aging society and the increased need of such care, in-home care services have grown to support a wide variety of needs and are an important component of the health care delivery system,” said Val Halamandaris,  president of NAHC. “We should all be grateful that these services enable so many people to receive care in the comfort of their own home, wherever home may be.”
“As we recognize Home Care & Hospice Month throughout November, it is our hope that families come together to talk about home care needs, and that a new awareness is developed for quality care options—that is in-home care,” said Moyer.
