RANGELY I The Rangely High School Panther girls’ soccer team is a very young athletic team, but they found the sweet taste for the first time in more than a year with a weekend victory.
“We have some players who have never played but are very excited to be playing soccer now,” Panther head soccer coach Patsy Wanstedt said.
“Our team consist of two seniors in Courtney Bell and Marielle Ivie; four juniors with Corinne Coombs, Adriana Lopez, Ciara Wilson and Taylor Heil; five sophomores with Haile Elam, Grace Kenney, Elizabeth McCann, Klaire Denny and Elizabeth Byers; as well as five freshmen with Skylar Thacker, KK Fortunato, Marlena Miller, Alanna Wiley and Paityn Myers,” she said.
The lady Panthers handed a 5-1 defeat to Moffat County over the weekend for the first win by the team in more than a year.
Taylor Heil scored four of the five goals against Moffat County, having had assists from Klaire Denny, Corinne Coombs and Ciara Wilson.
The other score came from Corinne Coombs, who had 1 break-away goal for the distaff Panthers.
“Our defense, led by captains Courtney Bell and Marielle Ivie, only gave up one goal to the Bulldogs,” Wanstedt said. ‘We are very excited for this season.”
