MEEKER | The lady Cowboys had a slow start to their season, and after only one game post holiday break they are looking to pick up speed. They are currently 2-3 on the season.
“We are such a new team and we are just about ready to click together,” commented head coach Jamie Rogers.
Friday’s snowy travel and game at Baggs, Wyoming against the Little Snake Rattlers did not end in the Cowboy’s favor, 28-46, but Rogers said the girls played tough.
“Ellie Hossack had a great game,” said Rogers.
Hossack ended the evening with 12 points, leading the Cowboys.
“We have a lot of freshmen and sophomores on the varsity team,” began Rogers, “they are not as steady as our leaders, Brea Garcia, Jayden Overton, Hossack, or Ainsley Selle, but they are working towards it.”
For the season Selle is leading in points averaging 11.2 points per game and rebounds, averaging 8.6 per game. Against Little Snake she had six points and led in rebounds, with eight, Overton also had eight.
Sophomore Charlie Rogers had six points as the third highest scorer and six rebounds.
“Little Snake was aggressive, but it was a good look at their defense to get us ready for league games this weekend with similar defenses,” said Rogers.
Lots of games this week for the Cowboys, home again Wednesday, they hosted Roaring Fork, a new to Meeker league team. Friday they will be in Olathe and Saturday at Parachute.
“We will have games every Saturday for the next few weeks, and it gets really busy,” ended Rogers, “we will be playing some new teams, and look forward to playing some of those we have for years.”
