Rio Blanco 4-H teams compete at Logan County contest

MEEKER |  4-H members from across Rio Blanco County, along with coaches Kari Brennan and Hannah Black, traveled to Sterling this past weekend to compete in the Logan County Livestock Judging Contest on April 25.

The contest featured 80 juniors forming 23 teams and 49 seniors forming 14 teams.

Rio Blanco County was represented by two junior teams. One team included Ally Black, Paisley Potter, Milo Brennan and Brodee Kilduff. The second team included Arabella Black, Klayton Carroll and Whitney Carroll.

Competitors were scored in cattle, sheep and goat, swine, reasons and overall performance. The contest included 12 classes and three sets of reasons for juniors. Individuals are recognized for top-10 finishes, while teams are recognized for top-five placements.

Individually, Ally Black placed second in cattle, fifth in reasons and 14th overall. Paisley Potter placed 20th in cattle, third in swine, third in sheep and goat, eighth in reasons and second overall, earning an additional All-State point. Milo Brennan placed 16th in sheep and goat, 34th in reasons and 28th overall. Brodee Kilduff placed 18th in swine, 17th in sheep and goat, 26th in reasons and 18th overall.

As a team, Black, Potter, Brennan and Kilduff placed second in swine, third in sheep and goat, fourth in reasons and second overall.

Individually, Arabella Black placed 71st in reasons and 40th overall. Klayton Carroll placed 50th in reasons and 39th overall. Whitney Carroll placed 67th in reasons and 74th overall, and as a novice competitor, placed seventh in reasons and ninth overall in that division. As a team, they placed 17th in reasons and 16th overall.

Participants also spent time with Rio Blanco County 4-H alumna Paola Munoz, who is attending Northeastern Junior College and competing on its livestock judging team. Munoz was part of the group officiating and hosting the contest.
