CALL SUMMARIES
4/16/2023 @ 11:40 am. A traffic complaint was called into the Rio Blanco County Communications Center near the rest area on Highway 139. The vehicle was reportedly driving in the wrong lane and on the shoulder with inconsistent speeds. A deputy located the vehicle. After following the vehicle for some time, there was no probable cause to pull the vehicle over.
4/16/2023 @ 12:00 pm. A resident on County Road 101 was concerned about some people that were shooting clay pigeons towards their property. A deputy responded to the area and spoke with the people that were shooting. They were shooting in a safe direction away from any residences.
4/17/2023 @ 6:12 am. Show sheep were roaming the area of 7th/Garfield. The owner of the sheep was notified.
4/18/2023 @ 12:25 pm. A passerby reported a motorcycle that was found in the ditch near the intersection of County Road 60 and Highway 13. A deputy responded to investigate and the motorcycle had been reported stolen several months prior. The owner of the motorcycle was notified.
4/19/2023 @ 7:47 am. A deputy assisted Rangely PD with a 911 open line where screaming could be heard in the background. Everything was OK, it was a child who didn’t want to brush their hair before school.
4/20/2023 @ 2:04 pm. A traffic complaint came into the Rio Blanco County Communications Center regarding a semi that was swerving on Highway 13, south of Meeker. A deputy was able to locate the semi and followed it for several miles. There was no probable cause to pull over the semi as it appeared to be driving OK.
4/21/2023 @ 7:33 am. A fatal car accident occurred near the 51-mile marker on Highway 13. There was one vehicle and one victim involved. Colorado State Patrol is handling the investigation.
4/21/2023 @ 10:33 pm. In the area of 3rd/Cedar a vehicle was called in as being driven by a drunk driver. MPD officers responded and were unable to locate the vehicle.
On April 19, 2023 Sheriff Mazzola attended the hearing at the state capitol on HB23-1230, a bill that proposes to prohibit assault weapons in Colorado. The bill failed by a single vote.
