RIO HAPPENINGS: AUG 10-16, 2025

ARRESTS

8/18/2025- A 54 year-old male was arrested by Meeker PD for Felony Eluding, Criminal Attempt, First Degree Assault-Criminal Attempt, Reckless Driving, Driving Under the Influence, Failure to Maintain Lane, Domestic Violence, Third Degree Assault, Obstruction of a Telephone and Criminal Mischief. He was taken to jail and remains in custody.

CALL SUMMARIES

There were 25 traffic stops performed by deputies on Highway 13 due to the reduced speed limit to 50 mph.

8/13/2025 @ 7:32 pm. A concerned father contacted the Communications Center because his daughter was low on fuel and seemed to be lost between Rifle Gap and Meeker. With the assistance of her GPS coordinates, a deputy was able to locate her on Buford New Castle Road. A CPW officer also assisted, and together, they were able to provide her with fuel and ensure she arrived safely in Meeker.

8/14/2025 @ 5:21 pm. A suspicious person on the 10th Street bridge…just trying to get that one profile pic that says “I survive on vibes and bad decisions.”

8/14/2025 @ 6:50 pm. Elk Fire Incident Command reported that a father went up the mountain after his son, who was attempting to extinguish a tree on fire with a shovel. Both individuals were later found at their residence. Law enforcement detained both parties and issued a warning, as their actions hindered firefighting operations.

8/14/2025 @ 10:26 pm. Rangely PD reported someone lighting fireworks in the area of Parkview Elementary School. A deputy assisted and the suspect fled on foot from the scene.

8/15/2025 @ 8:55 am. A smoke report came into the Communications Center in the area of Aldrich Lakes. This was indeed another wildfire and was later named the Aldrich Fire. The cause is under investigation.

8/16/2025 @ 11:48 am. A 5-year-old was reported missing from a residence in the town limits of Meeker. The hide-and-seek champion of the year goes to…the 5-year-old found in the basement.
