ARRESTS
8/20/2024 – A 53 year old female was taken into custody for Driving Under the Influence and Possessing an Open Container in a Vehicle. She was issued a summons and released to a sober party.
8/23/2024- A 67 year old male was taken into custody for Driving Under the Influence, Possessing and Open Container in Vehicle and Drug Paraphernalia. He was issued a summons and released to a sober party.
CALL SUMMARIES
8/18/2024 @ 7:15 pm. A suspicious incident was called into the Communications Center when the reporting party heard someone screaming and it also appeared someone was being held down at a gas station in the town limits of Meeker. Upon law enforcement arrival it was determined that a pet lizard had been stepped on and was deceased.
8/20/2024 @ 10:19 am. A deputy initiated a traffic stop at 6th/Market and later took the driver into custody for DUI. The driver was given a summons and released to a sober driver.
8/21/2024 @ 6:58 am. Rio Blanco County Sheriffs Office and Meeker PD assisted Moffat County Sheriff’s Office with locating a suspect who was wanted for a Felony Menacing that had occurred in Moffat County’s jurisdiction. Although armed, the suspect was located in the town limits of Meeker and taken into custody without incident. Moffat County Sheriff’s Office transported the subject to jail.
8/22/2024 @ 2:31 pm. Colorado Dept. of Transportation workers were fixing a guard rail near the 62 mile-marker on Highway 64 when they found a car approximately 100 feet off the road, upside down and near the river. The vehicle was unoccupied and the investigation was handed over to Colorado State Patrol.
8/22/2024 @ 7:49 pm. If you say “Hey Siri, call 911” she will do just that! The 911 callers were checked on by Meeker Police Dept. and everything was okay.
8/23/2024 @ 7:26 pm. Two males and a female were observed near a business in the town limits of Meeker drinking beer, possibly smoking a “crack pipe” and showing children a stuffed animal. The suspects were contacted by officers and the male driver was taken into custody for DUI, driving a vehicle when driver’s license expired, open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle, failing to use turn signals, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was later released to a sober party.
8/23/2024 @ 11:24 pm. A structure fire was reported to the Communications Center. Meeker Volunteer Fire Dept and Meeker PD responded and ensured all three residents escaped the fire. The residents were transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation. A Meeker PD Officer also drove himself to the hospital for shortness of breath.
Sheriff Mazzola received a letter from a thankful citizen who had been stuck on Highway 64 due to a mudslide blocking the highway in June. A small excerpt from the letter stated “The deputy, Will Pena, came to our mental rescue and directed us back to an alternative route to get us on our way. He was extremely patient with all that were stuck and carefully explained our options for getting on our way. He is a tremendous representative of your department and of the wonderful people of your county.”
