RIO HAPPENINGS: July 19-25, 2026

ARRESTS 

7/20/2026- Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 55 year- old male for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs or Both. He was issued a summons and given a courtesy ride to a local hotel.

CALL SUMMARIES

 7/19/2026 @ 3:56 pm. Communications received several 911 calls reporting a wildfire near the 65 mile-marker on Highway 64. The fire was determined to have been caused by lightening. The Meeker Volunteer Fire Dept. responded quickly and had the fire contained by 6:39 pm.

7/20/2026 @ 6:49 pm. A routine traffic stop near 8th & Market St for driving 60 mph in a 50 mph zone turned into a DUI arrest.

7/20/2026 @ 9:12 pm. Only a few hours after being arrested for DUI, the same man stopped by the Sheriff’s Office to retrieve the very vehicle that got him there in the first place. Deputies encouraged him to stick with the original plan: head back to the hotel, get some sleep and reunite with his car when he was making better decisions.

7/21/2026 @ 11:06 am. The wildfire identified as the Keystone Fire was determined to have been caused by lightening. The most recent report estimated the fire at 3,042 acres with 69% containment.

7/23/2026 @ 12:42 pm. Several mudslides along County Road 5 temporarily closed the highway. One truck became stuck in the mud as a result of the slides. Road and Bridge responded to clear the roadway.

7/23/2026 @ 9:46 pm. During routine patrol, a deputy discovered the neighborhood’s newest superhero practicing his “Spider-Man” skills on the bleachers at the Fairgrounds. The aspiring web-slinger was encourage to keep both feet on the ground.

7/24/2026 @ 7:19 pm. A bear in the Sage Hills area attracted the attention of several residents. Officers responded, monitored the situation and the bear eventually moved out of the area without incident.
