RIO HAPPENINGS: June 9-15, 2024

ARRESTS

A male party was arrested on 6/10/2024 by Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office. He was taken to Moffat County for DUI.

CALL SUMMARIES

6/9/2024 @ 7:31 am. A squirrel caused a transformer to catch fire which in turn caused an area of Meeker to be without power for a short time. The squirrel removal and power outage was handled by White River Electric Association.

6/9/2024 @ 7:30 pm. Almost exactly 12 hours after the squirrel incident a bird got stuck in a power line near a residence on Highway 64 causing yet another fire. Meeker Volunteer Fire Dept. responded and had the fire contained at 8:56 pm.

6/10/2024 @ 1:47 pm. A real life Lassie moment occurred when an owner’s dogs alerted a neighboring campsite in the Miller Creek area. The fellow campers followed the dogs back to a campsite only to find the dog owner was in need of immediate medical attention. The male party was transported by helicopter to a hospital.

6/12/2024 @ 8:54 pm. What started as a domestic call on County Road 2 turned into a DUI. The male party was issued a summons and picked up by a sober driver.

6/14/2024 @ 10:05 pm. A deputy on routine patrol in the town limits of Rangely observed a motorcycle driving without taillights. When the deputy attempted to stop the driver he eluded the deputy at a high rate of speed. Before the deputy could catch up with the driver, the motorcycle crashed with a passenger on the back. Both parties were injured and taken to the hospital. The driver was issued a summons for DUI, Vehicular Eluding, Reckless Driving and Driving a Motorcycle without Endorsement.
