RIO HAPPENINGS: May 17-23, 2026

ARRESTS

5/22/2026- Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 43 year-old male for 3rd Degree Assault. He was transported to jail. 

5/23/2026- Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 20 year-old male for domestic violence and harassment. He was transported to jail. 

CALL SUMMARIES

5/17/2026 @ 1:05 pm. A deputy was flagged down by a concerned passerby at Rio Blanco Lake regarding an unattended campfire. Before any firefighting heroics were required, Mother Nature clocked in for her shift and handled the situation with a timely dose of rain. The deputy stood by to supervise the weather’s work and confirm the fire was fully extinguished. 

5/18/2026 @ 9:08 am. The Sheriff himself responded to County Road 5 after a large rock—roughly the size of a coffee table—decided it no longer wanted to be a part of the hillside. Armed with a winch and a healthy disregard for rocks that block traffic, the Sheriff successfully reloacted the boulder off the roadway. 

5/19/2026 @ 12:03 am. While participating in training at the Meeker Police Dept., the K-9 decided to test more than drug sniffing skills and accidentally activated the panic alarm. 

5/22/2026 @ 12:57 am. An assault took place involving a male and female at the Trail and Hitch Campground. Following the altercation, the male individual fled on scene on foot. However, law enforcement successfully located the male shortly thereafter and he was taken into custody and transported to jail. 

5/23/2026 @ 1:14 pm. A domestic violence event took place on Strawberry Patch Road. The event was reported the following day. Following an investigation, a male suspect was taken into custody and transported to jail.
