ARRESTS
Sept. 12 — Meeker Police Department arrested a 52-year-old man for harassment and domestic violence. He was taken to jail and later released on bond.
CALL SUMMARIES
All in all, it was a fairly typical week in Rio Blanco County: a little wildlife (and more bears), a little mischief, a few vehicles in questionable situations and one very empty bathroom.
Sept. 6, 3:31 p.m. — An injured deer near a driveway on County Road 8 prompted a call for assistance. The caller chose to remain safely inside their vehicle because of the injured deer. A deputy arrived, at which point the deer decided it had recovered just enough to leave the scene.
Sept. 6, 7:54 p.m. — A hunter in the back country found himself in a situation where “I’ll just tough it out until morning” wasn’t the best option. Because of medical issues, the hunter was safely transported out of the area by helicopter and taken for further medical care.
Sept. 7, 8:14 a.m. — Forest Service Road 230 proved a little less forgiving than expected when a vehicle found itself in a tight spot. The driver was given the classic advice: call your own tow truck.
Sept. 8, 1:49 p.m. — A concerned caller reported someone might be locked inside the restroom near mile marker 53 on Highway 139. A deputy responded and conducted a thorough check of the facilities. Fortunately, the restroom was empty.
Sept. 9, 8:22 a.m. — A head-on collision occurred on BLM Road 1005. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries. The vehicles were leaking fluids, which warranted a response from the Meeker Volunteer Fire Department.
Sept. 11, 11:56 a.m. — A traffic complaint near mile marker 58 on Highway 13 prompted deputies to locate and stop the vehicle. The driver received a warning for failing to maintain the lane.
Sept. 12, 10:56 a.m. — Callers reported a motorhome on fire in the Yellowjacket area. A witness was able to turn off the generator, which helped reduce the smoke while the Meeker Volunteer Fire Department responded. Firefighters quickly got the fire under control. No injuries were reported, and the motorhome had to be towed out of the area.
Sept. 12, 6:23 p.m. — While investigating a 911 hang-up on Water Street, Meeker Police Department officers overheard yelling. After further investigation, a man was arrested for domestic violence and harassment.
