8/5/2026 @ 7:25 p.m. A caller reported what appeared to be two poached elk near the Rock Crawling Park in Rangely. A deputy and Colorado Parks and Wildlife responded to investigate. 8/6/2026 @ 5:25 p.m. Deputies and Colorado Parks and Wildlife responded to a residence on County Road 17 after a bear entered the home and helped itself to the kitchen. The bear apparently helped itself to the local cuisine, looked around, and decided it had seen enough of the property. Before deputies and CPW could intervene, the four-legged burglar made its exit and left the scene on its own. No arrest was made, as the suspect was last seen heading into the woods and is considered armed with claws and an impressive appetite.
