July 26, 2026, at 7:07 p.m. Highway 64 was closed for a short time due to a wildfire in the area of the 48-mile marker. Fire crews were able to extinguish the flames quickly. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
July 26, 2026, at 3:49 p.m. Sulphur Creek Road briefly became the scene of a dachshund rescue mission after a scared wiener dog found himself in a storm drain. Several good Samaritans, along with Meeker PD, sprang into action. The pint-sized pup was safely pulled from the drain and eventually reunited with his owner.
July 29, 2026, at 3:27 p.m. Mother Nature kept everyone on their toes as mudslides covered portions of Highway 64 and County Road 5, creating hazardous driving conditions. Thanks to the quick work of Road and Bridge and CDOT crews, the roads were soon passable once again.
July 29, 2026, at 6:28 p.m. Apparently not finished with the day’s excitement, the hillside sent a boulder rolling onto County Road 5, where it was struck by a passing vehicle. Fortunately, the driver escaped without injury.
July 29, 2026, at 8:35 p.m. Flooding on County Road 8 above Miller Creek added another chapter to the day’s weather saga. Road and Bridge responded to help manage the water and keep the roadway as safe as possible.
July 29, 2026, at 8:49 p.m. Just when it seemed the skies might be taking the night off, additional flooding was reported on County Road 5, affecting both a residence and the roadway. Crews continued working into the evening, proving once again that Colorado weather doesn’t believe in business hours.
July 30, 2026, at 7:07 a.m. Circle Park became the scene of an investigation into an unclaimed canine “deposit” after a caller reported a dog owner leaving behind more than just paw prints. Code Enforcement responded and searched for the dog owner; however, they had already left the scene. Residents are reminded that picking up after their pets keeps parks enjoyable for everyone.
July 30, 2026, at 11:25 a.m. A single-vehicle crash occurred near the 47-mile marker on Highway 139. The lone occupant sustained injuries and was transported to the hospital. Deputies responded to assist at the scene. Colorado State Patrol is investigating the accident.
July 30, 2026, at 5:19 p.m. A vehicle traveling on County Road 5 experienced a tire blowout that turned into an unexpected roadside fire. Sparks from the damaged tire ignited nearby brush, causing a small fire. Fire crews responded and extinguished the fire.
