Colorado District 8 Senator Dylan Roberts met with members of the White River Alliance (WRA) at Chipper’s Bar & Grill last week to discuss a variety of subjects related to river health and riparian restoration. Robert’s spent about half the meeting listening to concerns and taking notes. WRA member’s focused on issues like water storage along the White River and the feasibility of the Wolf Creek Reservoir, aerial mosquito control (spraying) and their historical/ongoing efforts to convince local governments to end the practice.
Sen. Roberts highlighted the passage of his most recent legislation which makes funds available for water infrastructure, conservation and related projects throughout the state. Roberts also answered questions about wolf reintroduction and expressed disappointment over Governor Jared Polis decision to veto bipartisan legislation sponsored by Sen. Roberts and State Rep. Perry Will. The vetoed bill included a rule unanimously agreed upon as a necessity by the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission that would have established protections for landowners taking reasonable steps to deter wolves from their livestock and/or property.
Other subjects discussed at the meeting included demand management, enforcing laws about water speculation, Colorado’s stance in federal river compact negotiations, the still-to-be-published White River algae study and other subjects.
