MEEKER I Cowboy cross country was back in Delta on Friday for the 2A regional competition, with the girls racing first. Brighton Bair, still on the mend from a foot injury, ran a hard race for a 25th place finish at 22:38. Haylee Steele was back this week, with a time of 27:15 and 83rd. In the boys’ race, Wyatt Rollins had a good start, and kept a solid pace throughout. He achieved a new Personal Record (PR), just breaking under 18 minutes for the first time, at 17:59. His ninth place finish qualifies him for the state competition on Saturday. Gabe Smithers was the second Meeker teammate across the line, with a 36th place 19:51. Aidan Tapia was Meeker’s third finisher, in 20:23 and 48th. The Cowboys’ fourth scorer, Eddie Drussell, was 52nd at 20:41. Gage Richardson and Oliver Holmes took 62nd and 65th places, in 21:07 and 21:33 respectively. Cameron Hanberg finished in 85th place with a time of 23:20. These were new PRs for Holmes and Hanberg.
As stated above, Rollins will be representing Meeker at the State Cross Country Championship race on Saturday. The course is at the Norris Penrose Event Center in Colorado Springs, and the 2A boys will race at 12:20 p.m.
