RBC I Tori Lasker, 10, and Chris Scherbarth, 9, represented Meeker very well Saturday, June 11 at the Colorado Rockies Pitch, Hit and Run Team Championship. Tori placed second overall in the 9-10 girls’ division. Chris placed first overall in the 9-10 boys’ division.
Chris and Tori advanced to Coors Field by winning both the local and sectional competitions held earlier this year. Their winning scores from the sectional were among the top three in the 9-10 year old girls and boys in the four-state Rockies region, making them eligible to compete in the team championship.
Scherbarth now waits to hear whether he advances to the National Pitch, Hit and Run Finals in the 9-10 year old age group to be held at the MLB all star game in Phoenix, Ariz., in July. Only the top three scorers overall in each age group from the 30 MLB team championships advance to the national finals. The MLB Network will announce the finalists live on June 27. More than 600,000 athletes competed in Pitch, Hit and Run this year, and Scherbarth’s Rockies Team Championship means he is already in the top 30 for his age group in the nation.
Both kids are very thankful to have competed and to have the family support that they have. They would also like to give a special thanks to “Miss Nicole” and “Miss Trudi” from ERBM Recreation District, for hosting these local events that provide opportunities to them and their friends.
