MEEKER I Meeker Cross Country held an Invitational on Friday, Aug. 29, with seven other teams in attendance. The boys ran first again this week, starting in two waves, separated by a few minutes.
“We had a great day for racing: The course was in great shape, the temperatures and air quality were good, and we had solid competition.”
The first five Cowboys did some great pack running for a good portion of the race, and finished in similar fashion: Ethan Drake had an excellent race, with a seventh place finish in under 21 minutes. Colby Clatterbaugh and Gabe Richardson were just over 21:00, in eight and ninth places. Buzz Clatterbaugh was 11th place, at 21:18, and Shane Kobald was two places behind, in 21-1/2 minutes. Spud White was the sixth Cowboy racer from the first wave, at 21:42, and 15th place. The second wave had Gage Richardson in 20th place at 22:37, and Ashdon Seibert and Gabe Smithers finishing in 25:07 and 26:24, for 28th and 31st places, respectively.
The girls’ race also consisted of a two wave start. Meeker had four runners in the first wave, and three in the second. Brighton Bair was Meeker’s first to the finish in sixth place at just over 24 minutes, with Nora Gianinetti a couple of minutes behind her. Savannah Mendenhall was the third Cowboy placer by time, in 28:26 for 22nd place. Aiyana McCook took 24th place, at 29:15, and Ainsley Selle was two places and two seconds back. Sarah Kracht and Alana Nielsen rounded out the Meeker team, with 29th and 34th places, at 31:07 and 32:56.
“We had a few more of our new teammates compete today, and I was pleased with their efforts,” said head coach Marty Casey. “I look forward to seeing their progress this season. I saw some good things from our runners. We still have room for improvement, but the hard work and pack running from the boys got us the team win, and I see some great potential on the girls’ squad.”
