MEEKER | Softball wrapped up week one with two wins at home with a double header against Gunnison.
The season itself is only 16 games long and five have already been played.
Game one against the Rifle Bears the Cowboys lost 18-0 to a historically strong and competitive team. In games two and three they took on Palisade, two more losses for the season, 17-0 and 15-1.
The first day of school the varsity played Gunnison winning both 12-10 in game one and 18-3 in game two, ending the first week of play with a 2-3 record.
“Leading at the plate this week were Juniors Mykayla Wille, Hailey Knowles and Emma Knez with three hits each,” commented head coach Brianna Williams.
On the mound Knowles pitched “steady and strong through game one and Brealyn Garcia had an excellent performance in game two against Gunnison,” said Williams.
This Saturday the Cedaredge Bruins will travel to Meeker to meet the Cowboys in another double header, games will begin 11 a.m. at Paintbrush Park.
