Report: Plans offered to promote Meeker economy

MEEKER I Last week, the Rio Blanco County Economic Development Strategy, Phase I- Community Assessment Report for Meeker was released. The report, prepared by Better City, contains a list of assets and liabilities in the town, a SWOT analysis and recommendations for potential improvements to the community.

Everyone coming to the table

MEEKER I Meeker Chamber of Commerce executive director Katelin Cook continues to bring people “to the table” in an effort to build relationships and create partnerships to work on economic development in the area.

Sam Bailey with the Colorado Business Retention and Expansion office, Kari Linker with the Colorado Office of Economic Development, Katelin Cook, executive director of the Meeker Chamber of Commerce and Kimberly Bullen, Rio Blanco County administrator, spoke at a meeting attended by business owners, organizations and government officials. Linker will return to Meeker in June to facilitate an economic development class.

Chamber, town, county hope to kindle economic flame

MEEKER I At an economic development planning meeting Monday at the Fairfield Center, approximately 40 attendees voiced their thoughts and ideas about economic development. Participants represented 19 businesses, 13 special districts, boards or organizations, 12 government entities and two concerned citizens.

Towns work on development

Meetings were held in Rangely and Meeker last week to discuss Gov. Hickenlooper’s Bottom Up Economic Development strategy.

Developing a plan for the economic growth of county

RBC — Even though the exact form or direction is still taking shape, a group of business people and community leaders is moving ahead with efforts to focus on creating an economic development strategy for the county.

Deadline for county survey is March 1

RBC — A community survey was distributed to all households in Rio Blanco County in late January in an effort to collect information for the update to the county’s master plan. A total of 2,675 surveys were mailed and, to date, 400 have been returned.
