RBC I Three state agencies have launched a joint audit of Mind Springs Health, sending state investigators to review documents and financial records at the nonprofit mental health agency for 10 Western Slope counties.
The organization, one of 17 regional community mental health centers that receive millions of dollars each year in public funding, has been at the forefront of criticism as policymakers look to revamp Colorado’s behavioral health safety-net system.

This (Mind Spring/Mental Health) issue defines what results when: “Somebody SHOULD do something.” Public gas lighting is used to whip up support for spending more of our grandchildren’s money – sure, to help people in need and serve families here in RBC. We all agree on that part. But what actually gets done? Remember, when all is said and done – a lot more gets said than done. The main failure in programs such as this one, is to not set a target with measureable ‘data-points’ to assure that needs are being met. For example, what were the needs being expressed by those who reached out through the system – asking and seeking some help? What were the needs to be addressed? Then strategies are devised to meet those needs and feedback mechanisms are in place to assure and provide oversight for success. It is most often a failure to properly structure the foundation of the organization – in this case – public assistance – that does not guide providers and patients to achieve the goals. For example – getting OFF public assistance instead of exploiting it further. It will be interesting to watch the money trail in this investigation. Thank you to all those who care enough to bring this to our attention. Good reporting. Thank you.
