MEEKER | Some believe summer wrestling makes winter champions and several Meeker athletes started working on their goals by attending two camps during their summer break. Eleven Cowboys attended a team tournament in Paonia this month. Seven of them wrestled 15-20 matches each in Gunnison last weekend.
Bo Muxlow, Ty Goedert, Trae Kennedy, Cyros Halandras, Kaden Franklin, Connor Blunt, Elijah LeBlanc, Dax Sheridan, Cade Blunt, Judd Harvey and Colby Clatterbaugh all wrestled in Paonia.
“All the wrestlers got around 10 matches,” Meeker head wrestling coach J.C. Watt said of the Paonia camp, held June 8-10. “We camped out and had a great experience.”
Goedert, Kennedy, Halandras, Franklin, Blunt, Sheridan and Clatterbaugh all wrestled in Gunnison last weekend, getting more summer matches in.
“Everyone wrestled between 15-20 matches,” Coach Watt said. “Colby only lost once, Ty was undefeated in 18-team pool and wrestled in the All-Star dual at the end.”
Coach Watt said Goedert, Blunt and Kennedy all had winning records.
“They all wrestled well and they all improved,” Watt said. “Thanks to Tyrell Turner, Carl Padilla, Kurt Blunt and Dr. Grant for helping out with travel and coaching.”
