MEEKER | The local Meeker S3DA archery team traveled to Las Vegas, Nevada, last week to compete in the national archery tournament. Along with the rest of their Grand Junction team Meeker’s archers represented the state well on the national level.
The young adult division (ages 15-18) took third place. Theirs was the toughest bracket with only 12 points separating them from the first place team from Idaho and only eight points behind the second place team from Texas.
The Eagles were the youngest group with 9-11 year olds. Most of them were competing for the first time in Las Vegas. They took second place. The Youth group (ages 12-14) showed up with their personal bests to place first against S3DA teams from all over the nation.
Local individual performances included: Auri Murray placed third in her age group, Eli Bennett placed ninth, Jemma Bair placed fourth, John Bair placed 35th and Brighton Bair placed fourth.
The kids had a great experience making friends and competing against fellow archers from all over the nation, but all share a common passion for the sport. The team now looks forward to the Indoor National S3DA competition held in Vernal, Utah, on March 3.
