MEEKER I The Meeker Pee Wee wrestlers had an outstanding weekend at the Moffat County Youth Wrestling Tournament in Craig.
Twenty-six little grapplers took to the mat with their black and gold singlets, competing in several round-robin brackets.
The six-and-under and eight-and-under age groups competed in the morning with the older kids wrestling in the afternoon.
Seventeen of the 25 kids wrestled in the morning with seven of them being awarded champion T-shirts, including Dillon Hobbs, Reed Goedert, Clay Randall-Stewart, Cade Blunt, Stephen Koenig, Ty Goedert and Connor Blunt.
Liam Deming and Dominic Wyatt placed second in the tournament with Dathan Dade placing third and Robert Foster finishing fourth. Other wrestlers competing in the morning session were, Finley Deming, Rian Hindin, Will Foster, Coy Richardson, Kaleb Nielsen and Dagon Dade.
Connor Blunt was named the “Gorilla of the Week” by Meeker coaches Carl Padilla, Bobby Gutierrez and Keenan Turner.
The afternoon session saw the remaining eight grapplers from Meeker wrestling and four were champions: Kelton Turner, Keston Hobbs, Ridge Williams and Josh Cochran.
Trintin Moomey finished second in the tournament with Parker Pontine. Lane Anderson finished third and Ashdon Siebert-Garcia placed fourth.
Damon Dade was the “Gorilla of the Week” for the older kids.
The northwest league consists of teams from Parachute, Rifle, Hayden, two from Craig, Rangely and Meeker.
The kids have wrestled in Rifle and Craig and will be traveling to the Hayden tournament this weekend.
